2022 Acura TLX vs. Genesis G70

Acura TLX vs. G70

The Acura TLX is the spiritual successor to the brand’s much-loved Integra, a sport sedan with incredible handling, and a lot of driving fun for the dollar. The German offerings in this range aren’t exactly very sporty, but Genesis does have a sedan that competes more directly with the TLX. Pricing is awfully close, so we’re going to have to take a closer look to see what keeps the TLX ahead of the competition. Motorcars Acura has put together this guide to give you exactly that closer look.

Right from the start, we can see a slight price advantage for the TLX, it might seem small, but when you look at what you’re getting for that money, it becomes a much better deal. For starters, the TLX comes with a more powerful engine, 20 more horsepower as well as 20 more lb-ft of torque. And thanks to a 10-speed transmission the TLX also has better fuel economy. Since these are sport sedans, it’s a surprise that both have multi-link rear suspension, but when it comes to the front setup, the TLX has a much more refined double-wishbone setup. This kind of setup allows is connected up to the vehicle in more places, and allows for much more precise control. Add to that the larger 13-inch brakes in both the front and rear, and it’s clear that Acura takes sports sedans a lot more seriously than Genesis. The TLX looks the part better too, thanks to dual exhaust exits.

Inside we find 10 speakers in the TLX, compared to just 6 in the G70. Both cars have rear seats that fold down, but the TLX has 3 cubic feet more trunk space, definitely a noticeable amount. You can get a sunroof on the G70, but it’ll cost extra, and the Acura’s multi-angle rear camera and voice-activated climate control aren’t available at all on the Genesis.

Winner – Acura TLX

Acura TLX Type S

There are a lot of reasons to like the Acura TLX. The multi-angle rear camera, the larger trunk, these are solid advantages. But where the TLX really shines is as a sport sedan. It’s got noticeably more power than the G70, bigger brakes, and a better suspension setup. The G70 might have some sporting touches, but it hasn’t been built from the ground up specifically for spirited driving, and the TLX has. This is the kind of thing that’s best experienced from behind the wheel, so let our team at Motorcars Acura help you with a test drive!
