Acura vs. Mercedes-Benz Comparison
Acura is a luxury car company founded to challenge the idea of what makes a luxury car, to introduce the idea that things like safety and reliability were just as important to luxury as leather upholstery. Acura faces off against older brands, with there being no older luxury car brand than Mercedes-Benz. So how do the two actually compare, Motorcars Acura has put together the following guide to show some of the key differences.
Best Value Luxury Brand
Every year, the Kelley Blue Book Consumer Choice Awards are awarded to brands that generate the most excitement among consumers. For the 2025 awards, Acura was named Best Value Luxury Brand1>/sup>. Not only that, but Acura’s parent company Honda took more of these awards than any other manufacturer, and by a wide margin. These awards aren’t broken down into individual models, but the Integra did win a Best Resale Value2 award from KBB. Mercedes-Benz didn’t win any Consumer Choice Awards for 2025.
J.D. Power Initial Quality Study
J.D. Power has tracked various aspects of the automotive industry for years. One of the more important things they track is initial quality, the problems (or lack thereof) that are encountered in the first 90 days of ownership. Two different Acura models, the Integra and the RDX, were named the Highest Initial Quality3 models for their respective segments. Mercedes-Benz, despite competing across a wider range of segments, only managed to win one segment. Reliability isn’t always a top priority for other luxury brands, but Acura knows there’s nothing luxurious about not being able to drive your vehicle at all because it’s being repaired.
American Made
There are a number of advantages to buying an American-made car, such as a lower price for parts when performing maintenance, and just generally supporting local communities and jobs. Neither Acura nor Mercedes-Benz are considered domestic brands, but they both have assembly plants in the US. The Cars.com American-Made Index ranks all of the vehicles assembled in the US according to how much American labor/parts went into them, and Acura rates the highest of any non-domestic luxury manufacturer. Mercedes-Benz did not earn any positions in the top 50, and only four models even made the top 100, with the highest-ranking model reaching 90th place. The entire Acura model lineup4 ranked in the top 16 for the 2025 edition of this survey, apart from the ADX, which wasn’t available for sale yet when the data was compiled. Here are the Acura models on the list:
- 2025 Acura MDX (East Liberty, Ohio or Marysville, Ohio) — 11th place
- 2025 Acura RDX (East Liberty, Ohio or Marysville, Ohio) — 14th place
- 2025 Acura Integra (Marysville, Ohio) — 16th place
